Dual Claw Trap IAS

Question: How is your IAS calculated when using dual claws to determine trap laying speed? What if one claw is very fast AS and the other is fast AS. Thanks in advance.

Re: Dual Claw Trap IAS

See what base claw it is. Then, find the weapon's speed modifier (WSM). A Runic Talon is -30, Feral Claw is -20, Suwayyah is 0, etc. This can be found on the Arreat Summit.

For traps, it uses the average WSM of the two claws. Then, there is the table in the IAS Tables in the sticky sections. Scroll down a bit to find traps, and see the IAS you need based on the base WSM and if you have BoS, etc. The primary claw is the only one who's IAS matters. The Primary is the claw equiped first. IAS outside equpiment (like from Cat's Eye, Highlord's Wrath, etc) also count, but off-hand AKA secondary claws do not count.

Helps?

Re: Dual Claw Trap IAS

So which is it? You say first that it is an average of the two speeds and then you say only the speed of the first claw matters...

Re: Dual Claw Trap IAS

The average determines the WSM. Also, it isn't the average of the two speeds, per se. It's the average of the Item's WSM. From the sound of it, it sounded like you were meaning speed like the IAS.

Based on the tables in the IAS Tables topic, the amount of IAS one need to reach the 9 frame is based on the WSM. The lower the average, the less IAS you need. For example, two Greater Talons (both -30 WSM average to -30 ofc) would require 42 IAS with no BoS active. The Primary weapon may or may not have IAS. If it does, it counts towards the IAS + any off the weapon (like in armor or ammy, or w/e). The second claw can have 30 IAS for instance, but since it is second, it won't count.

It is kind of the two different ways, but the WSM determines IAS. I was just making sure you knew that Primary was the only claw checked for IAS. ^.^

Re: Dual Claw Trap IAS

Oh, one last thing. The "primary claw" I've always been told is the one equipped above the gloves. Is it the first one you actually equip? Or is the primary claw (the one IAS comes into play) the one above the gloves?

Re: Dual Claw Trap IAS

The primary claw (the one that has it's ias count towards trap speeds) is the claw you equip first. So you could purposefully equip bootside first and make that primary, however by default gloveside claw is primary, and this will reset every time you swap weapons. Unless you have a reason for manually setting bootside primary every time after you bo, keep your primary claw gloveside to avoid confusion.
