Skunkbelly's Ultimate Tournament Challenge

I went a different route... I personalized a magic helm, for future crafting use  We'll see if that pays off... but I couldn't find anything useful, and didn't particularly want to run Baal. I'd already put 13 levels on poor Quasimodo...

Frost has been received. Thanks for fixing him folks! He looks workable, though not fantastic. I will outfit him and see how he does. Thank goodness (otherwise known as SKunkbelly) for good equipment!

I didn't do any reruns, a little time-poor at the moment, but Baal dropped me a Dark Clan Crusher first time through. I decided to personalize that...the +2 Druid skills with reasonable damage in a one hander could be useful in quite a few scenarios.

Edit: Oops, just looked at the table and with the demise of Charles_Wright early on, I won't see my first Druid in this competition until Act 3 Hell (except in the event of other deaths). Oh well, it's a nice little ecky-thump anyway. ;)

Butz. :dunce:

HD has completed Normal and I will send her on shortly, once I decide what to personalize and kill the Cow King for completeness. I ran Baal a bunch but nothing appropriate has fallen and I've decided that the biggest need that I am likely to be able to address with items I can get in Act 5 is a 3-socket armor, for likely later use as a runeword armor. I've been looking for a lowly 3-socket breast plate and have had no luck yet- I've had many two and one socket armors drop, including ghost armor and serpentskin armor (which unfortunately can't have 3 sockets) but no luck with a breastplate yet- hard to believe! I was originally hoping for a 3-socket light plate but those are much less likely to fall, and once I gave up on that I thought a 3-socket breastplate would turn up quickly, but alas! Those breastplates seem to drop all the time when you are looking for anything else...

I just couldn't pass up personalizing the Skin of the Vipermagi that Baal dropped. Extra skill and resist all will probably come in handy. Still trying to figure out what would be the best use of a socket or three...

Ok sent on Lowell to Joebruce. He should be around for a long time, the best built char ive played so far. Went from lvl 31 to 47 or so without any trouble. Second time i killed baal i got a Peasants crown, and used it on my personalize quest. I used the socket quest on a shield i had.

HD the Assassin completed normal and is now Destroyer. I've sent her on to crazy_bear and will start GertrudeStein the Amazon who has arrived safely from Wolron.

From H.D., here's a short poem from 1915, "Oread:"

Whirl up, sea—
Whirl your pointed pines.
Splash your great pines
On our rocks.
Hurl your green over us—
Cover us with your pools of fir.

Too bad there are no water elementalist characters in Diablo!

Skins of the Vipermagi and the Peasant's Crown are great finds to personalize and they make my socketed breastplate look quite weak- hopefully I'll be able to make good use of it later!

Well, I had a five day weekend, and as I don't play D2 at home (thats everquest time) I will be finishing Act V up today or tomorrow.

Frost has killed Andariel and moved on to Lut Gholein. He is no longer the danger that he once was. I took the three screens that show his current skill set, so it will be available for a recap when we remember his deeds.

I believe that I can deduce the original skill set that he was given. If so, then sirpoopsalot proved that any character can survive Act 2 normal difficulty if you are careful. My guess is that Frost will survive for quite some time now, unless someone is careless. I only had one NDE (surprised by a boss hiding amid a bunch of wimps) with him and I played P5 all of Act 1.

I will hold on to Frost until Skunkbelly gives the go ahead to send characters who have finished NMAct1. In the meantime, enjoy Gertrude PurpleLocust:smiley: .

My stash contains a very nice weapon (especially well suited for Act2 Normal) that allowed me to hide behind my merc for most of the time. I've actually had more NDE's with other characters, simply because I was less careful at all times.

As mentioned ... um... earlier - Bishop has been sent to waflob. I'm not sure what caused that brain-fart, but I'll try not to get 2 weeks ahead of everyone again. :duh:

I'm still waiting on my char for A1 NM, but there's no rush.

Just got back in town from my Thanksgiving trip today. Have Ai over half way through Act 5. Shouldn't be too long before she's ready to ship out. The finding of a decent personalization item will likely take longer than the rest of the Act. I could really use a specific suffix on a ring, but not sure if I want to spend the gold resources on gambling. Might just go the magic helm for crafting route as well.

Don't want to put a kobash on your fun, but gambling is a no-no. You can only use gold for repairs, merc resurrections, scrolls, keys, and potions.

Indeed, no gambling please. If you gamble prior to seeing these posts, then any item you gamble and personalize will have to be dropped on the ground, and you'll unfortunately lose that quest reward.

My e-mail won't come up right now, so I haven't gotten her yet, but so far nothing hasn't made it so we will see.

Ignatow has completed Act 5, but now is searching for something worth personalizing. He found a sol rune and was able to make 'Lore' in a superior crown that was in his stash, so he doesn't need a helm. Maybe he'll save some boots or gloves for crafting later too....

Pound finished Act V. Poked a hole in Viscerataunt, probably for a pdiamond later.

Also I now have Pound's Hwanin's Blessing. A very lucky drop.

Pound will be sent right now.

edit: FYI put 18 levels on ole Pound. By far the easiest char so far.

Thanks a lot for the warning on the gambling. Haven't done any yet, so no gold wasted. Guess I'll be limited to pindle runs unless something nice falls on the way through Baal. Suppose I also need to figure out what's getting socketed. Wasn't the best week to be MIA.

I have a rule question about changing acts. In the original rules it says:

You may visit the towns in previous acts and difficulty levels for shopping/mercenary-switching purposes only, but you can only leave town in the act you are currently playing.

I have a dreadful map for Countess running in A1 NM and would like to reroll my map by visiting a town in normal. Would that be permitted? That is visiting a previous act, but not for a shopping/mercenary switching purpose. I suppose I could pretend that I desperately wanted to buy a minor mana potion from Akara in Act 1 normal or switch mercs when I don't really want to, but that would be a total fiction. So if it isn't allowed to visit a earlier difficulty to reroll a map, I can live with this, but if other people are doing this or don't object, I would love to be able to do that.

The rules don't specifically allow that, purple_locust... but since there's clearly a loophole, I think it's fine. The point is that nobody should PLAY in a previous act or difficulty level... it has some strategic importance (i.e., you can't go back for item running or leveling, etc.). So feel free to switch maps using this method.

Aha, great, thanks for the quick ruling! It is very difficult to write rules that don't have some kind of loopholes somewhere, so I'm never sure how literally I should take them- the spirit or the letter?

I am happy I'll be able to get a better Countess map and I think I will pick up a minor mana potion from normal Akara to celebrate!
