how does resistance work?

say if an attack did 1000 fire damage...
and you have 10 fire resists

does the resistance get rid of 10%? but then, you can go over 100 resistance so that wouldnt make sense

can anyone explain this to me, or give me a link

ehh this might be the wrong forums for this

just wondering becaue so many of you are talking about elemental builds

Your fire resist percentage subtracts that percentage from the damage you take. So if you are being dealt 100 damage and you have 40 fire res, you will take 60 damage total.

You also can't go over 100% resists, you can only go up to 75% resists normally. With +max resists gear you can increase the cap on resists up to 95% maximum.

I see...

thats why you need gear with +5% resists to reach 95

it would be to easy to get 95% otherwise

thanks
