Gogo Gadget Gloom!

Well, this is a funny old game after all.

I've been holding off starting my WW barb until I could find the runes for Gloom. I had Fal and Pul, just needed the Um. Now I've been boring myself to death doing Hell Countess runs, to no avail. Eventually I decided to give up on the idea completely and go back to questing with my new Meteorb sorc. Well, guess what the Nightmare Hellforge goes and drops.... yep, a bloody Um!

Anyway - so now I'm all set. Going to make Gloom in a superior Boneweave (443 def) which should be ok, since I'm going with maces, so I can afford to pump Str. I see the stats on Gloom give +200-260% def. Is that an additional 200%? So I can expect min 1329 def when I'm done?

Also, what with the new 1.11 rune words, is Gloom still a good choice for me? Should I rather look at the +2 Barb skills armour (whatever it's called)?

Thanks
Rob

Gloom is an excellent choice. High def, res all, and crowd control for archers/gloams = pwn.

I'd recommend against a superior armor tho - the repair costs will be extremely inconvenient.

Ok - good point. Planning on using Demon Limb on switch for the enchant charges, which in itself will be costly to repair.

Just noticed I have a 3os Wire Fleece with 449 def (even more than the boneweave) with a Str req of only 95. Guess this will be a much better option, even tho it looks naff on the character.

Hi

For me style is important so i realy want my chars to look decent. Wire Flece is not an option for barb. Look for another armor. I really dump some of the runewords becouse it looks stupid on char. There is a post in barbarian forum stickies about diffrent armor looks

I say go for archon or great hauberk. They look decent, but the important thing is that their def is the highest out of the superior light armours. I personally would not use an armour lower than 490 def for gloom, since it provides a nice ED so don;'t let it go to waste.

Can I sheepishly enquire as to whether you, or anyone else, has a spare 3-os Archon plate or Great Hauberk just, you know, lying around, or something...? I have some other socketed elite armours I could trade...

Look good?

Not to be ungrateful, or anything, but the Def is lower than the Wire Fleece I already have.

Yep, you're giving up 12 base def for not having to see your barb's ugly brown skirt.

You're right. I'm an ungrateful sod! Please be so kind as to pass it along to robert(dot)otto(at)gmail(dot)com. I have a 2-os 490-def AP to give you in return, if you like.

I prefer Stone to Gloom but i'ts me :D

Avoid superior for costs, medium and heavy armour needs more str and have run/stamina penalty.
Better use light armours that way you can use the armour in chars with less str, if you don't care about look use another armour then Archon Plates the req. Char level of 63 is high you have to wait 16 CL to use the harmor when you can use Gloom at CL47

Here you can see the armour look:

Well hang on, then. I'd forgotten about the clvl reqs. If I use my Wire Fleece (ugly as it may be) I can use my armour 10 levels earlier than if I go with the Archon Plate... That's a pretty compelling reason to stick with what I've got...
