Cold Mastery Question

This is my skill layout so far:
20 Frozen Orb
20 Telekinesis
20 Cold Mastery
20 Ice Bolt
10 Energy Shield
10 Warmth
1 Shiver Armor
9 Prerequisites
Yes... this is planned for a level 99

I plan on having a level 46 Cold Mastery which is -245%
I heard that the cap for CM is -150%, does that mean after level 27 (-150) it is really useless or does that mean an enemies' resistance negative cap is -150? If the first is the case I would only need 2 points into cold mastery instead of 20.

the paladin aura conviction has a hard cap of -150%. this means conviction will never grant more than -150% enemy resists. cold mastery has no such cap. HOWEVER, there is a general cap on resists. no player or monster can have less than -100% to any resistance. this means that if a player has 50% cold resist, you would only need enough cold mastery to give -150% cold resist. you will want to max cold mastery for pvp play (due to people stacking resistances).

Wow, -245% :) I assume this is for PvP. For PvM you just need -195% (for DClone), since the max monsters can have is 95% before they tip into immunity.

That would depend on whether you're building a boss runner or not. In general you want slvl17 with your +skill gear on, but if you're mostly running bosses you should bump it up more or even max it.

Depends if you are pure cold :)

If you are, max it. If you are not, 17 seems to be the wise level (with +skills) due to the excellent Meteorb guide by Sansa.

Level 17 is picked because it gives -100%, so that it cuts into any monsters with any cold resist at all, while it reaches the max -resist for a monster without any cold resist.

If you are going to farm Hell Meph, he has 75% resist, so -175% is the best.
