Nahantu is the southernmost region of the eastern continent, known to outsiders as Torajan, and is the new region introduced in Vessel of Hatred. This is an area that players first ventured into during Diablo 2.
Its focal point is Kurast (located in the north-central area of the region), and it contains an abundance of untamed wilderness and ancient secrets.
The geography of the land is quite varied, from the thick flora and fauna of the Torajan Jungles (think Flayer Jungle in Diablo 2) to the barren expanse of the Teganze Plateau. It is also home to the Field of Giants as well as the dark, dank depths of the Kurast Sewers. You can get a good idea of how Vessel of Hatred fits into our adventures around Sanctuary in our map below.
You can view what the area looked like in Diablo 2:Resurrected in the drop-down gallery below.

Nahantu Zones and Monsters
Within the region are six zones, four are jungle and two are red rock canyons and each has their own unique identity.
Lingering Hatred
This is the area you first venture into during Vessel of Hatred. This is a tree-top canopy high above the jungle floor that light barely penetrates. This region is a wild and otherworldly realm, where vibrant yet deadly life thrives in ways unseen anywhere else in Sanctuary. The twisted nature of this land bears the mark of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, whose dark influence has tainted what was once a flourishing paradise. Countless small rivers and winding streams snake through the dense tropical forests, eventually converging into the mighty Argentek.
Monsters in this region include:
- The Hollows - A new enemy that's associated with Mephisto who are a tar-like substance creature born straight out of the depths of hell.
- The Dregs - These fierce warriors consume hallicinegens to fuel their frenzied raging attacks.
Teganze
Teganze, a region deep within the Torajan Jungles, is divided into an upper and lower territory. It was once a battleground during the Mage Clan Wars, where the Umbaru of the upper region transformed into Khazra, the feared goat men, to expel the Vizjerei mage clan from their lands. Though they succeeded, this transformation bound them to serve the demon Zagraal for eternity. The Witch Doctors of lower Teganze eventually vanquished both Zagraal and the Khazra. Now, only lower Teganze remains inhabited by the resilient Umbaru tribe (Witch Doctors) but we do not know if we will face them in Vessel of Hatred.
The Teganze Plateau is filled with red rocked plateaus and canyons.
Monsters in this region include:
- Lacuni - Returning from Diablo III but now a fully fleshed-out family of monsters, varieties such as Brute Force and the Caster are the apex predators of this area. Blizzard said they expanding on this monster family. There were four classes in D3 (Huntress, Slasher, Watalker, and Warrior) so expect more than 4 classes of Lacuni to appear in VoH.
Field of Giants
Is an area within the Teganze Plateau illed with the bones of long-dead giant demons that once roamed Sanctuary that people now mine for resources. These are toxic to the area so expect poison-based damage to feature heavily here.
Skittering Earth
A bug-infested zone deep within the jungle, riddled with burrows teeming with swarms of venomous insects. Their poison has ravaged the land, leaving a trail of destruction through the once-thriving jungle flora.
Monsters in this region include:
- Bugs
