Maggot eggs are laid by [[Sand Maggot]]s and will hatch multiple [[Sand Maggot Young]] if the eggs are not destroyed during the gestation period. It's all or nothing with maggot eggs; an egg that's .1 seconds from hatching 6 young will hatch none of them if it is destroyed in time.

More eggs are laid and more maggots are hatched from each egg on each difficult level. Two young on normal, 4 on Nightmare, and 6 on Hell is the usual increase.
